About
Silver & Gold Coin Blog publishes evergreen explainers on silver and gold: what drives their prices, how the futures markets and central banks fit in, and the practical side of owning coins and bullion. We favor long-lived guides over daily market chatter, and we update them when the facts change.
We do not sell metal, manage money or take commissions, and nothing here is personal investment advice. Articles are written and checked by the editorial team; figures come from public sources such as mints, exchanges and central-bank statistics.
Why guides rather than daily notes
Precious-metals news is noisy. A jobs report, a comment from a central banker or a large futures order can move silver by several percent in an afternoon, and by the following week the explanation offered at the time has often been forgotten. Daily commentary has its place, but it ages quickly and it rarely helps a reader understand why the same forces keep coming back.
So this site is built the other way round. Each guide takes one recurring question (why silver is more volatile than gold, what the Commitments of Traders report actually shows, how a coin’s metal value is worked out, where to keep bullion) and answers it in a way that should still be useful in five years. When an older market story illustrates a point, we use it as an example, not as a forecast.
What we cover
- Silver: industrial and investment demand, mine supply, the gold/silver ratio, and the coins people actually buy, from modern bullion issues to pre-1965 US silver coinage.
- Gold: the drivers of the price, the role of Asian buyers, mint sales data and the practical side of owning coins and bars.
- Money and central banks: interest rates, quantitative easing and official gold reserves.
- Futures markets: COMEX, the CFTC and the difference between paper contracts and physical metal.
How we work
Every article is signed by the editorial team rather than by a named personality, because the goal is a reference text, not an opinion column. Specifications such as weights, finenesses and launch dates come from the issuing mints or exchanges. When a figure is uncertain or changes over time, we say so or leave it out rather than guess. We do not publish price targets.
If you spot an error, or think a topic deserves a guide of its own, the contact page is the quickest way to reach us. Corrections are made in the article itself.
